RBI rolls out Bitcoin trading to 18 million customers
Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) is extending Bitcoin trading services to approximately 18.8 million customers across Europe through an expanded partnership with Bitpanda.
The bank confirmed the initiative in a Wednesday statement, highlighting Bitpanda as its technical and operational partner for the rollout.
This expansion follows a 2024 pilot in Austria where Raiffeisen Landesbank Niederösterreich-Wien (RLB NÖ-Wien) became the first traditional bank in the European Union to offer crypto trading within its existing banking environment using Bitpanda’s technology.
The new agreement represents a strategic shift for the group, moving away from fragmented market-by-market integrations toward a single approach applicable across the entire organization.
Bitpanda Enterprise provides institutions with comprehensive digital asset capabilities, including investment infrastructure, liquidity management, custody solutions, payments processing, stablecoins, and tokenisation focused on compliance and scalability.
RBI positions itself as a leading player in the broader European crypto adoption wave, joining peers such as BBVA, Santander Openbank, SoFi, PNC, Charles Schwab, and Morgan Stanley who have similarly launched or announced retail crypto trading services over the past 18 months.
